Toy Story 3 will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience(R) with proprietary IMAX DMR(R) (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

Walt Disney News
Commenting on the announcement Bob Chapek, president, Distribution, The Walt Disney Studios, said, "We're very excited to once again unite Disney Digital 3D with The IMAX Experience, and to do it for the long-awaited release of Toy Story 3 is a real treat. A film like this is designed to take audiences on an exciting thrill-ride adventure, making it a perfect match for both 3D and IMAX."

"We have always envisioned the Toy Story franchise as an ideal fit for The IMAX Experience and we're very happy to finally turn that vision into a reality," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "This film also fits nicely into our 2010 lineup, ensuring that families will be able to start the summer holidays with a fun Disney release in IMAX."

"Pixar's beloved films have changed the way people go to the movies. IMAX is proud to be working with both Pixar and Disney, who like IMAX, strive to transport moviegoers to incredible places that people only dream about visiting," added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "In IMAX 3D and through the power of Randy Newman's incomparable music, audiences will be able to see and hear Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the larger than life characters of Toy Story in a whole new way."

The creators of the beloved "Toy Story" films re-open the toy box and bring moviegoers back to the delightful world of our favorite gang of toy characters in Toy Story 3. As Andy prepares to depart for college, Buzz, Woody and the rest of his loyal toys are troubled about their uncertain future. Directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of "Toy Story 2" and "Finding Nemo"), Toy Story 3 is a comical new adventure in Disney Digital 3D(TM) that lands the toys in a room full untamed tots who can't wait to get their sticky little fingers on these "new" toys. It's pandemonium as they try to stay together, ensuring "no toy gets left behind." Meanwhile, Barbie comes face to plastic face with Ken (yes, that Ken). Pixar veteran Darla K. Anderson ("Cars," "Monsters, Inc.") produces, while Michael Arndt, Academy Award(R)-winning screenwriter of "Little Miss Sunshine," brings his unique talents and comedic sensibilities.

Lufthansa has become the first major European carrier in 20 years to launch a service to Baghdad.

The German carrier said it was planning to fly to the Iraqi capital and Erbil in the north from Frankfurt and Munich this summer due to high demand and security issues within the country easing.

Boris Ogursky, a spokesman at Lufthansa’s main hub in Frankfurt, said: “The demand goes in both directions.”

He also confirmed a start date of mid-2010 but added that it’s too early to specify a number of flights.

Lufthansa first started flying to Baghdad in 1956 but halted operation in 1990 because of the Gulf War, when U.S.-led forces reversed Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.

Since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003, Iraq has struggled to exploit its vast crude oil reserves due to civil war.

But, with security apparently improving, the Iraqi government now hopes to triple oil output from 2.4 million barrels a day to 7 million over the next six years, and has awarded oil-exploitation rights to a string of foreign companies in recent months.

Royal Dutch Shell, China National Petroleum Corp., OAO Lukoil and Statoil ASA were among bidders that won seven oil-project service contracts last month.

Startup ViVu has released a software plug-in for Skype that allows the popular Internet calling service to be used for multipoint videoconferencing.

Skype News
Skype can already be used to make voice calls between more than two parties, but the lack of multipoint video has been seen by some as its biggest shortcoming. The company said recently that one third of all Skype-to-Skype calls now include video.

Skype Video
"The flaw in Skype's video strategy right now is that it's point-to-point only," said Irwin Lazar, an industry analyst with Chicago-based Nemertes Research.

The ViVu plug-in, called VuRoom, lets several people take part in a video call using Skype. The number will depend on the bandwidth available, but ViVu CEO

Skype Hot News
Sudha Valluru said the service will support up to eight participants for most broadband users before the image quality gets too poor.

The participants are displayed in a browser window that pops up when the call begins. The window can also display a PowerPoint presentation or the host's desktop, and ViVu plans to add an archiving capability in about a month so that conference calls can be viewed over.

The VuRoom plug-in is due to be released for download Wednesday, priced at US$9.95 per month for unlimited calls. Only the person initiating the call has to buy the plug-in; other participants need only Skype, a browser and a webcam.

Mobile search will dominate the strategic direction of the smartphone market in the year ahead, with search becoming one of the five most-used smartphone applications by year-end 2010.

Mobile voice calls made via an IP-based network (VoIP) are anticipated to evolve from niche to mainstream, given the availability of new services that blend an increasing range of IP-based features that complement mobile voice, including: one-to-many calls, broadcast voicemail, and voice-to-text. As a result, mobile VoIP services are expected to reach tens of millions users by the end of 2010.

Saba Sindaha, partner in charge for the TMT industry at Deloitte in the Middle East comments:“Telecommunications predictions for 2010 have been largely shaped by the consequences of digitisation and mobile data.

The growing importance of mobile search is expected to generate fierce competition amongst search providers; however, only one or two players may dominate this space in the mid-term.”

Saba Sindaha adds: “The rising adoption of mobile VoIP services could cause a fundamental rise in expectations as to what mobile voice can do.

Operators will need to understand the short- and medium-term implications of this, but also consider companies outside of the sector looking to capitalise on the allure of subsidised or free calls to devices to enable the flow of advertising messages.

Portals such as Facebook and Yahoo are likely to look more favourably towards mobile VoIP applications as a way to encourage use of smartphone versions of their websites to command greater user loyalty.”

The FBM KLCI reached fresh highs yesterday, bucking the trend in the rest of the region which saw other key Asian markets weighed down by concerns of the formation of asset bubbles in China.

Analysts said the local bourse could still steam further ahead, driven by interest in lower-liner stocks, sectoral plays and a good start to the earnings season, with PUBLIC BANK BHD [reporting a 3.7% year-on-year rise in net profit to RM678.23 million in its fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2009.

Malaysia business news
The FBM KLCI succeeded in staying above the 1,300-point level, ending 6.27 points higher at 1,306.62, the highest since March 2008.

It made a new 52-week high of 1,307.94 in intra-day trading. Market breadth was, however, negative, with losers outstripping gainers around seven to five.

Jupiter Securities head of research Pong Teng Siew said the market could see further upside at least for the next one to two months.

“It is a bull market, boosted by the low interest rate environment, and the general move of funds into emerging markets,” he told The Edge Financial Daily.

He also said the market was seeing an expansion in price-to-earnings ratios, adding investors had become more confident and were now willing to pay higher prices.

Momentum in the local market would probably last until the second quarter of the year, when a correction, due to the “chorus of worry on China’s overheating problem” could set in.

Meanwhile, PUTRAJAYA PERDANA BHD, whose parent UBG BHD is set to be taken over by PetroSaudi International, was the day’s top gainer, adding 78 sen to RM4.70.

Other top gainers were glovemaker HARTALEGA HOLDINGS BHD and Axiata Group Bhd, which rose 43 sen and 21 sen to RM7.63 and RM3.43, respectively.

Pong said while the glovemakers had seen a good run-up in their share prices of late, investors had become more discerning and would likely stock-pick rather than buy into all companies in the sector.

Top losers were Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd, which lost 40 sen to RM33.90, FIAMMA HOLDINGS BHD, which shed 27.5 sen to 68 sen, and Tanjong plc, which closed 22 sen lower at RM17.60.

Among the most active stocks were KYM HOLDINGS BHD, which announced on Tuesday that an agreement with Vale International SA for it to sell 16 parcels of land to the Brazilian company for RM101.87 million had become unconditional. KYM rose 17.5 sen to 91 sen with 29.71 million shares traded.

Other active stocks were Axiata, with 25.5 million shares done, and Lion Corp Bhd, which rose two sen to 40.5 sen with 19.75 million shares traded.

The Lion group’s shares had been in the spotlight, due to interest in the steel sector.

In a note yesterday, AmResearch remained overweight on the sector as an anchor reflationary theme, expecting steel demand to accelerate in the coming months, driven by the imminent rollout of regional infrastructure projects, a weak US dollar and potential merger and acquisition newsflow.

Meanwhile, markets around Asia saw downward pressure on reports that authorities in China had told major banks to curb lending for the rest of the month, in an effort to stave off asset bubbles.

The Shanghai and Shenzhen indices were the worst performers in the region, losing 2.93% to 3,151.85 points and 3.67% to 1,191.75 points, respectively.

Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 shed 27.38 points, or a quarter of a percent, to 10,737.52 points, while Singapore’s Straits Times Index fell 19.79 points to 2,893.13 points. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index declined 1.81% to 21,286.17 points. Korea’s Kospi, however, stayed in positive territory, gaining 4.16 points to 1,714.38 points.

Senator Debbie Stabenow, a Democrat from the hard-hit auto state of Michigan, welcomed the move, which came two days before a hearing in the House of Representatives on barriers U.S. automakers face in Japan and South Korea.

"After excluding our vehicles for months, Japan is finally doing what is fair by including American cars in its program. I am pleased that the government heeded my call," Stabenow said in a statement.

Japan, in a statement from its embassy in Washington, said cars imported under a "preferential handling procedure" established in 1986 for U.S. automakers would be able to participate in a Japanese program to subsidize purchases of more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Import cars from USA
U.S. automakers previously complained their cars would not qualify for the subsidy, even though the U.S. "cash for clunkers program" was open to all imported cars.
